SPFBO5 IS UNDERWAY – AND MY BOOK IS IN IT!

SPFBO5

What the heck is a SPFBO5, you ask?  Excellent question!

The brainchild of Mark Lawrence, SPFBO stands for Self Published Fantasy Blog Off and is an annual competition for books in the fantasy genre.  300 books enter, only one survives.

The process, outlined on Mark’s blog here, is lengthy and, at times, brutal, but it’s a great way for books to gain visibility and for readers to find new books to love.

Essentially, the 300 entries are split amongst 10 book review blogs who read them, judge them, review them, and whittle them down to a small group of semi-finalists and then to single favourite.  This finalist is then passed around the other 10 blogger judges to be read, rated, and reviewed until only one winner remains.

At the time of this post, 23 entries have been cut from this year’s competition, several reviews posted on the various blogs, and just 4 semi-finalists selected.

I’m enormously pleased that Kalanon’s Rising was first to be selected as a semi-finalist in its group.  You can read the review here.

But this is only the first hurdle.  And remember how I said the process was lengthy?  We’re talking about 5 months here so now the waiting really begins.  I’m excited, thrilled, and anxious.  But mostly I’m pleased that already there are readers who have found and are enjoying my book because of this competition.  That makes me very happy indeed.

Wish me luck!
